The Elementary Education program offers a comprehensive pathway for individuals aspiring to become educators in kindergarten through 8th grade.

This stackable program includes both an Associate of Arts (AA) and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree, providing students with a seamless transition from foundational to advanced coursework. The program has a strong focus on how to work with diverse student populations.

Accredited by the New Mexico Public Education Department and and the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), our program ensures alignment with state standards and prepares students for licensure in Elementary Education K-8th Grade.

Through rigorous coursework and hands-on experiences, students develop a deep understanding of pedagogical practices, curriculum development, and instructional strategies tailored to elementary school settings. Upon successful completion of the BA program and passing scores on the requied State of New Mexico Teacher Assessments, teacher candidates will be eligible to apply for a K-8 teacher license with a TESOL endorsement.

Associate of Arts: The AA in Elementary Education curriculumis aligned to the New Mexico State's Transfer Module and NNMC's General Education Common Core Offerings, and provides a seamless transition to NNMC's Bachelor's in Elementary Education.

Bachelor of Arts: The BA in Elementary Education is accredited by the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) and by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

As part of the BA program requirements, teacher candidates also choose from one of thefollowing Concentration Areas areas:

  • Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science

  • Bilingual Education endorsement.
