Student advisement at Northern is an important part of making the most of your learning experience.
The Advisement Center at Northern New Mexico College provides a full range of advising for students, including academic planning, course scheduling, and accessing resources. The First-Year Academic Advisors are committed to providing personal academic support and helping students navigate the college experience.
All new students, and transfer students with fewer than 12 credit hours, are required to meet with an academic advisor before registering for classes. Continuing students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor before registering.
Your advisor can help you:
- Choose a major and explore career options
- Create a realistic and attainable academic plan
- Learn about academic processes and strategies
- Understand and review the requirements for your degree plan
- Complete a course schedule and register for classes
- Remove any advisement holds on your account
To schedule a meeting, contact the Advisement Center at (505) 747-2150.
- You do not need to bring any materials to your initial meeting. Your advisor will provide you with an information packet.
- They will help you arrange testing if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register for classes?
All first-year students and transfer students under 30 credits are required to meet with an advisor to register for classes. You can contact your advisor by email or phone to set up an appointment. Students over 30 credits or close to graduation must meet with a Faculty Advisor within their declared major department.
Where is the Advisement Center located?
The Advisement Center is located in the Joseph M. Montoya/ Administration Building. Enter into the main doors into the Rotunda area, to the right you will see the Student Service Center. Advisement Center is in Student Service Center.
Who is my advisor?
All first year students are assigned an advisor when they schedule their first meeting. When a student reaches 30 credits, they will then transition to meeting with a Faculty Advisor from their Department.
*All Teacher Education majors are required to meet with the Teacher Education Department upon acceptance, they will not meet with the advisors from The Advisement Center.
You can view who your advisor is by logging into Self Serve Banner and clicking on
Student Records, clicking on View Student Information. First Year Advisors and Primary Advisors names will be listed. - If you are still

How can I see my schedule?
You can view your schedule by logging into Self serve banner and clicking on the Registration link, click on Student Concise Schedule and your schedule will show up.
How can I see how many credit hours I have?
You can see how many credit hours you have by logging into Self Serve Banner and clicking on the Student tab, next click on Student Records, you will get another list, click on Academic Transcripts then Submit. This is a record of all your classes and grades, you can see how many credits you have at the bottom of the page. Anybody over 30 credit hours should be meeting with their department to register for classes.
How do I log into DegreeWorks?
You can log into Degreeworks by going to the website, clicking MYNNMC, Scrolling to the Important Information section and clicking on Log into Degreeworks. From there, you will login using the last five digits of your Eagle ID (ex: 11111) for your Username and your Microsoft/Office Account Password.
I can’t register for classes due to a prerequisite requirement, what do I do?
Contact The Advisement Center 505-747-2150 advisement@nnmc.edu or contact your advisor directly. - Please be prepared with your student ID # and CRN for the course or courses.
How do I get my student id card?
Visit the Advisement Office for your Student ID Card/ Eagle ID.
