- After 20 years of service, Dr. Alejandro Gonzales-Aller retired this Summer. He has been the Math Chair for many years and we will miss him

A Small LANL Foundation Project has been awarded to the Math Department "MathAthletics", students participants will be involved in small research projects involving Numerical Modeling
Spring 2013
- Dr. Ajit Hira has been appointed as a fellow in the 2013 ONR Summer Faculty Research Program hosted by the Space and Naval Warfare. The program is a continuous 10-week on-site program.
Systems Center - Pacific (San Diego, CA) - Congratulations! Dr. Ajit Hira has been nominated to be a member-at-large for CA-NV section of the Applied Physics Science Association. President Barcelo: "Let's all wish him well because this will provide Northern the opportunity to connect with faculty, researchers and educators nationally" (3/20/13)
- Dr Ajit Hira has received an invitation to submit a review for publication in Modern Physcis Letters B of his presentation on "Chemisorption on Palladium and Silver Clusters" at the APS March Meeting 2012. The journal boasts to have an agreement to publish Physics Nobel Lectures. Great! (27/1/13)

- New Adjunct Faculty: Welcome to our new adjunct faculty for the Fall, Adam Drew, he will be teaching math 100 and math 130.

New Course: We are offering MATH 129 (Problem Solving Methods) this Fall 2012 which you may decide to offer as a substitute for MATH 130 (Intermediate Algebra). We also hope to also offer MATH 151 as a sequel to MATH 129 in the spring which will replace MATH 150. We will use the book, Mathematics All Around by Thomas Pirnot which is used by UNM for their equivalent course. The course will emphasize the following:
1. Problem solving
2. Inductive and deductive reasoning
3. Set theory and its use in classifying objects
4. Logic (truth tables and conditionals)
5. Study of numbers (integers, rationals, reals)
6. Scientific notation
7. Linear equations and their applications
8. Consumer mathematics (interest, loans, amortization)
9. Geometry (area, volume and perimeter)
Summer Semester: session has ended July 29th. Grades due Monday July 30th
The New Math Center is now located at the High Tech Building, it will provide tutoring for math related courses and allow students to have access to math labs. The director is Amy Flores.

Accelerated Courses in Math (Grant sponsored): Fundamentals of Mathematics & Basic Algebra; Intermediate Algebra
Accelerate is a five-school Northern New Mexico DOE-funded initiative for non-traditional students. Highlights of the program include free summer math courses, a dedicated tutor, an advocate to help students overcome barriers, personalized academic advising, career coaching, competitive fellowships leading to jobs, dedicated career fairs, and stipends to defray expenses. Participants are selected each spring, but any student can contact Career Technical Advisor Christy Dammen to attend Accelerate career tutorials and job fairs or receive assistance with resumes and job search (505-747-5443, cdammen@nnmc.edu).
