Mathematics & Physical Science

Northern's Mathematics and Physical Science Department offers the math background needed for most STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) disciplines.

We offer associate and bachelor's degrees and teach a complete spectrum of mathematics courses including: Developmental math; College algebra, statistics and trigonometry; Calculus I, II, III; Discrete mathematics, Real and Complex analysis, Ordinary and Partial differential equations, Elements of Mathematical Statistics and Probability Theory, Numerical analysis, Linear algebra, Physics, Astronomy, and Geology..

The Math Learning Center is an important student resource providing computers and free tutoring support. It is equipped with 21 computers, each with MATLAB, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Career Outlook for Mathematics Majors

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, math occupations are expected to grow 26% from 2018 to 2028, which is much faster than other occupations.
