Testing Sevices at NNMC

Northern provides the following testing services:

Accuplacer

The Accuplacer Exam is one option for determining placement in Math and English classes. It is an untimed, multiple choice computerized exam consisting of sections on Math and English. Students must apply or register at Northern before being able to take the exam. Students must have and know their School ID for the test. 

  • Accuplacer exams are given every Monday @ 10:00 am

  • You must wait until the next day to take another placement test.
  • You are not allowed to talk during the test.
  • If students are suspected of cheating, their test may be stopped.


Cost of the Exam

  • Students may take the exam free of charge.
  • However, if you chooses to retake the exam, or any part of it, there is a $12 fee for retakes. 
  • Pay the fee at the Cashier’s office and bring the receipt to the testing center.


HiSET

The HiSET is a high school equivalency exam series. NNMC is an approved site for the delivery of  HiSET exams.

  • HiSET exams are given on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 10am to 12pm 
  • First-time candidates need to create an account at https://hiset.org/ 
  • Scheduling of the HiSET exams is subject to change and can be confirmed on the HiSET web page.


Exams:

  • Language Arts: Reading
  • 65 minutes, 50 Multiple Choice Questions 
  • Measures your ability to understand, comprehend, interpret, and analyze a variety of reading material.
  • Language Arts: Writing
  • 2 hours, 60 Multiple Choice Questions & An Essay
  • Measures your ability to edit and revise written text, and to generate and organize ideas in writing. 
  • Mathematics 
  • 90 minutes , 55 Multiple Choice Questions
  • Assesses your ability to solve quantitative problems using fundamental concepts and reasoning skills.
  • Science 
  • 80 minutes, 60 Multiple Choice Questions
  • Measures your ability to use science content, apply principles of scientific inquiry, and interpret and evaluate scientific information.
  • Social Studies
  • 70 minutes, 60 Multiple Choice Questions
  • Measures your ability to analyze and evaluate various kinds of social studies information.


To PASS you will need:

  • Achieve a score of 8 out of 20 on each of the individual tests
  • Score at least a 2 out of 6 on the essay portion of the writing test 
  • Cumulative score of 45 out of 100 from all tests


CLEP Exams

  • CLEP exams are given on Thursday at 1:30 pm 
  • These exams can be used to grant credit for certain College courses. 
  • Students will need to set up an account at CLEP, and work with their advisors to ensure that the credit granted via CLEP will be acceptable for their degree plans.

Proctoring

  • Proctoring assistance is available for faculty and programs at NNMC
  • Fill out the Exam and Accommodations Form, send to test coordinator, then schedule a time for student to take the exam with a proctor

TESTING DAYS are Mondays through Thursdays, in-person at the Ben Lujan Library.

Remote testing is also available upon request. To schedule a remote test, please contact Christian.

Testing  Center Rules 

  • Personal items such cellphones, smart watches, laptops, drinks or food are not allowed in the testing room.
  • Once you start the test, it must be completed during that session.
  • Bring a valid ID, driver’s license, or any form of identification
