Benefits of Dual Credit: Dual Credit provides significant tuition savings, gives students an opportunity to work towards a degree while in high school, and fulfills the requirement that all high school students must take one of the following courses to be eligible to graduate: honors, advanced placement, dual credit, or distance learning.
Remedial, developmental and fitness classes may not be taken for dual credit. Dual credit students are not eligible for scholarships or financial aid.
Every New Mexico high school student can enroll in college courses through the Dual Credit Program, based upon agreements between high schools and accredited public colleges. While most students take basic core courses such as English and math, coursework may include subjects such as culinary arts or criminal justice. Courses are accessible to students with a range of academic and career aptitudes.
In order to take a dual credit course, high school students must take either the ACT, SAT, or COMPASS placement exam. Scores help college advisors place students in courses that align with their career plans and academic preparation. Courses are offered:
- At the high school with an instructor who has been certified to offer the course
- Through online distance learning with other high school and dual credit students
- At a college campus with college and dual credit students

How to enroll in a dual credit course
- First meet with your high school counselor to complete the online application process, and discuss what classes could address your career and education goals.
- If you have not already taken a placement exam, you may take one at your high school.
- Northern recruiters and advisors work with high school counselors to register students. Parent/guardian consent is required to complete the registration process.
- Tuition, general fees, and course specific fees are waived for dual credit students. Books are paid for by the high school.
- Order required text books online at bncvirtual.com/nnmc, once you have received your NNMC Eagle ID number and payment voucher.
Welcome to College!
When you are registered for a dual credit class at Northern, you are an official college student and are entitled to use the free resources available to all college students, including:
- All Student Services
- Tutoring Services
- Writing Center
- Ben Lujan Library
- Free admission to basketball games and other student activities
- Access to the game room, gym and weight room.
RETURNING Dual Credit Students
Returning students may now access the Summer and Fall Schedule (Schedule of Classes), then submit their class request forms through their high school counselors. Homeschoolers may submit their class request forms directly to me. Please put your NNMC student (EAGLE) ID number in the Social Security Number spot on the form.
NEW Dual Credit Students
NEW Dual Credit students must first submit a Dual Credit application to me to receive their NNMC Student ID#. Online applications through the college website are for regular college students only.
Placement Scores
To arrange an online or in person Accuplacer placement test, contact: Testing Services.
All Accuplacer test takers should use the study guide and practice test available HERE (LINK). All New students must have their NNMC students (Eagle) ID number, which is created by submitting a Dual Credit application. If an ACT or SAT test has been taken, the Accuplacer is not needed. Please submit the scores directly to me.
Low Placement Scores
Dual Credit will not pay for remedial MATH 100N, 100NL or ENGL 108N, 109N, 109NL. However, our free online or on-campus Summer Bridge program does offer these courses to bring incoming high school juniors, seniors, and college freshman up to college level.
Grades and Transcripts
Grades will be mailed to the high school at the end of the semester, not directly to students. Students may access their final grades through their myNNMC account online. Students who would like their NNMC transcripts mailed to another college or university, should order Official Transcripts via Parchment.
