Cosmetology and Barbering

Barbering/Cosmetology Degree and Certificate Programs

The Department of Cosmetology and Barbering includes associate degree and certificate programs which are designed to provide the necessary skills to prepare the student for New Mexico licensure and the entry level skills necessary for full and part-time employment in this career cluster.

 

 

Basic Program Information

The Cosmetology program admits students in the fall and spring terms. General admission requirements include.

  • Complete admission process to Northern New Mexico College. See page 10 of the catalog.
  • Take the English placement test if the student has not completed a basic English college-level course or higher.
  • Arrange for an appointment with the Cosmetology Department for an admissions interview prior to being accepted into one of the programs by calling
    (505) 747-5473.
  • Complete the registration process required by the New Mexico State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists upon acceptable to a program.



Associate of Applied Science
COSMETOLOGY

This program provides you with the courses required by the New Mexico Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists for licensure (43 credit hours, 1600 clock hours) and expands those skills with the addition of General Education Courses.
