The Core BAIS Courses

THE PROGRAM CORE consists of six courses designed to help you ask basic questions about the human being from many different perspectives. In addition to courses in a particular emphasis, these core courses are desiged to integrate the entire curriculum. Students in the program develop critical thinking skills as they confront fundamental questions.

What does it mean to be a human being? What do humans have in common? How are we different? What should we aspire to as individuals and groups?

WITH THESE QUESTIONS IN MIND students explore themselves and the world around them from a variety of points of view, traditions, and ways of knowing.

In a series of Integrating Seminars, students are introduced to the interdisciplinary work that is at the heart of the program. In a second series of seminars, known as The Dialogues, students are introduced to the important works from cultures and traditions throughout the world.
