Position Title: STEM Curriculum Redesign Instructional Designer

Job Type: Regular/Full-Time

FLSA: Exempt

Reports to: Director, Center for Distance Education and Title III Project Director

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge

SUMMARY: Responsible for providing instructional and program design expertise and faculty support for the development of academic courses specifically in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, educational programs, and staff and faculty training and development. Assist with redesign courses aligned to STEM career path hiring needs. This position will be responsible for assisting with Accelerated Format courses (8 week) and Co-requisite STEM Math courses. This position will help faculty develop engaging, immersive, innovative STEM courses reflecting high priority Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for STEM pathways.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide instructional and program design expertise for the development and support of academic courses, specialized educational programs, and staff and faculty training and development
• Collaboratively plan, design, and develop online and/or hybrid courses, modules, learning objects, learning materials, asynchronous and synchronous learning activities, and other related materials
for the university academic community
• Coordinate instructional design projects from inception to completion, document those projects and processes, measure results, and write reports. Ensure projects meet accessibility and university
design for learning standards for quality and innovation
• Design, develop and implement evaluation procedures to assess effectiveness of using technologies in teaching and learning processes
• Manage the coordination and delegation of course design efforts and provide the necessary guidance for project completion
• Collaborate with faculty, subject matter experts (SMEs) to establish course goals, develop course topics, define learning outcomes, and create learning objectives
• Perform a needs assessment and audience analysis to determine the best methodologies for course development. Provide best practices and guidelines to align course objectives, assessments, and
activities
• Recommend effective and creative uses of technologies to enhance instruction and create new learning environments.
• Provide technology support for online teaching and learning tools used by faculty and students.
• Provide and develop training and training materials including online tutorials and other multimedia materials to assist faculty with remote teaching, online teaching, and learning tools.
• Conduct course quality reviews, provides recommendations for course improvement, and promotes good practices of teaching and learning with technology.
• Stay current with trends and emerging technologies in teaching and learning.
• Participates in committees and task forces.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
• Two years of experience in online course design and development.
• Experience teaching, designing/developing, or facilitating STEM courses.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master's degree from accredited institution. STEM background is preferred.
• 5 years of experience working with curriculum redesign and technology in STEM.
• Demonstrated experience working successfully with STEM faculty ensuring course learning outcomes alignment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

• Ability to create and review STEM content.
• Experience using technologies to design student-centered learning materials in a digital learning environment.
• Experience with tools designed specifically for science, technology, engineering, or math courses.
• Consulting with faculty about teaching with technology in online, hybrid, and face-to-face environments, remote teaching, or a related substitution.
• University/College teaching experience.
• Experience designing and facilitating faculty development programs.
• Knowledge of ADA compliance, Fair Use guidelines, and TEACH Act.
• Knowledge of learning theories, instructional theories, instructional design theory and practice, best practices in teaching and learning.
• Knowledge of HTML 5 and web page editors.
• Willingness to explore the use of technology and innovative learning and teaching strategies to advance student-centered outcomes in online, hybrid, and tech-enhanced courses.
• Ability to work well in a team environment or individually as needed.

• Ability to analyze complex problems and develop efficient solutions.

• Microsoft Office Experience: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Experience using a learning management system such as Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of HTML and CSS.
• Experience using web conferencing tools such as Skype, Zoom, WebEx, and Teams.
• Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, and other e-learning authoring programs e.g. Articulate Storyline, SoftChalk, Captivate, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is normally performed in a typical office environment. Limited remote work may be allowed.
