Position Title: Program Coordinator for Radiation Protection Program

Program Coordinator for the Radiation Protection Program will assist with the recruitment, advisement, cohort building, and professional development of radiation protection students. This position will attend career/recruitment fairs, work with New Mexico Workforce Solutions and high school counselors, and attend media and outreach events to recruit students into the radiation protection program. Once students are admitted into program, the Program Coordinator will create cohorts of students, advise students, create student schedules, advise faculty on section offerings, and implement strategies for student retention and graduation from the RDPR program. This position will also coordinate/offer soft skills workshops, professional development workshops, resume/cover-letter workshop, and work with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) recruiters/personnel to help RDPR students obtain internships/student positions/full time positions at LANL post-graduation. This position will work directly with BCES (Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science) chair and faculty to complete duties and obligations of LANL contract.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Works closely with BCES faculty and staff, NNMC faculty and staff, select LANL personnel, high school staff, and postsecondary education administrators and staff, and other community partners.
• Maintains a working knowledge and expertise regarding college admission requirements, the RDPR program, and financial aid programs.
• Assists with ongoing outreach and recruitment of traditional and non-traditional student and helps represent the RDPR program at school and community events.
• Assists the BCES chair and faculty with general oversight and coordination of daily RPPR program activities.
• Participates in all program planning, identifies need for changes and recommends improvements in the program.
• Offers career services, soft skill training, and informal education for RDPR students to ensure student retention, graduation, and job placement post-graduation.
• Monitors student’s academic progress.
• Works with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software programs to include computer work, reporting and maintaining files.
• Works off-campus at individual high schools in order to work with participants.
• Works occasional evenings and Saturdays.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Associate’s Degree in any field and three (3) years of experience mentoring, advising, recruitment and/or tutoring high school and/or college students
(OR) Bachelor’s degree in any field with one (1) year of experience mentoring, advising, recruitment and/or tutoring high school and/or college students
• Bachelor’s degree in in Behavioral or Social Science, Education, Psychology, Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Business or other human relations discipline.
• Experience working with low-income high school students and potential first-generation college students.
• Bilingual (English and Spanish)
• Experience in promoting programs, marketing, teaching, advising and/or presenting information to large and small groups, and working with diverse populations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.
• Must be willing to travel.

• Maintains confidential student records and assists with data collection and entry for required contract reports.
• Ability to provide individual advising for prospective students and their parents
• Communicate well—in writing and orally.
• Learn the requirements of RDPR program and LANL employment.
• Work well under pressure.
• Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Sitting for extended periods and other times walking and standing for extended periods.
• Performance of work is in a typical interior/office work environment and at times outdoors, in school hallways, gyms, auditoriums and other community gathering places.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• No or very limited physical effort required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Will be required to drive to different on and off-campus locations.
• Candidate will need to pass background check.
