Northern Nursing Student Awarded 2017 Nightingale Scholarship

Española, NM – Northern Associate Degree Nursing student, Soraida Sanchez, was one of five associate degree nursing program students in the state to be awarded this year’s $1000 Nightingale Scholarship. 

Nightingale scholarships are funded through a grant from the Nurse Excellence Fund of the New Mexico Board of Nursing, and are based on academic achievement, professional commitment, and financial need. 

"I am so grateful to my family and the nursing faculty who have supported me throughout my nursing education,” Ms. Sanchez said. “Thank you to the Center for Nursing Excellence for this special award."

Ms. Sanchez, who will graduate in May 2017 with an associate degree in nursing, plans to get her RN license immediately and start Northern's RN to BSN Program in fall of 2017. She is interested in working in labor and delivery at Presbyterian Española Hospital with a long-term goal of working in the trauma center at University Hospital in Albuquerque.

$1,000 Nightingale Nursing Scholarships are awarded annually by the New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence to students in ADN, BSN, RN-to-BSN, and advanced nursing degree programs.
