NNMC President Bailey Delivers 3rd Quarterly State of the College Address

Northern New Mexico College President, Dr. Richard J. Bailey Jr., delivered his third quarterly State of the College Address on Wednesday, June 28.

The President updated faculty, staff, and community members about the College’s fiscal health and the state audit, and stressed that the audit has provided the College with a roadmap for improvements that are already underway.

He added that receipt of a recent federal grant demonstrated renewed confidence in the College.

Dr. Bailey also discussed the College’s strategic plan, the objectives and implementation process of which will be announced through a public release in early Fall 2017.

As part of the College’s efforts to streamline services, Dr. Bailey announced several structural changes including the appointment of the current director of admissions, recruitment, veterans center, and dual credit, as Interim Dean of Students starting July 1st.

The changes aim to improve the efficiency and inter-departmental communication and collaboration of all student services.

Dr. Bailey also discussed his plans to pursue an energy audit, making use of a state program that provides a loan to public institutions looking to make facilities improvements that lower energy footprint and cost.

He explained that the guaranteed savings in utility costs will go towards paying back the loan, and will put the College on a sound strategic fiscal footing in the long term.

Dr. Bailey also gave an update on the ongoing efforts to revitalize the El Rito campus through a series of innovative initiatives, such as the planned solar array project, the digital observatory project, and an upcoming watershed conference.

He announced his intention to create an advisory committee to help develop a sustainable future vision for the El Rito campus.

Dr. Bailey concluded his address by answering questions and concerns from College staff and community members.
