Who We Are

An education, training and research project at Northern New Mexico College, Northern’s HSA faculty is comprised of former employees of LANL with additional staff support from experienced emergency responders with over 45 years of experience. The Principle Investigators developed the proprietary HSA decontamination effectiveness evaluation process during their tenure at LANL.

With both real-world experience as first responders and research and development scientists, the team developed process training, and unique testing capabilities to employ safe, multi-state, multi-function, multi-color simulants that fluoresce under ultraviolet light as simulated contaminants. These simulants represent an extremely difficult condition for decontamination, by not attempting to mimic the exact characteristics of any one hazardous material by recognizing the generalizability of certain traits. Through the use of the mobile laboratory, HSA has the capability to take our evaluation technology into the field to provide our clients with operationally-oriented, testing and evaluation of decon systems under real-world circumstances.

At full capacity, HSA is staffed by qualified Ph.D. and Master degreed full and part time faculty, as well as undergraduate student assistance with continued research capabilities for process and stimulant development.
