Learn how to develop the next big thing with Federal Laboratory Technology Transfer and Engineering Entrepreneurship.
Technology Transfer programs were created to facilitate the commercialization of federal inventions, science, engineering and technology, and to benefit the American public by sharing these resources with state and local governments, industry and academia.
NNMC, in partnership with UNM, NMSU and NMT, has launched a Tech Transfer Program with two online courses, March 19–May 11, 2018.
Federal Laboratory Technology Transfer: ENGR 499 / CRN 24238, 3cr.
Learn about federal technology transfer initiatives, processes and procedures with this 8-week crash course. The course outlines the benefits of technology transfer the process of transferring technologies from federal agencies to the private sector, commercialization of technologies, intellectual property, and marketing.
Engineering Entrepreneurship: ENGR 472 / CRN 24239, 3 cr.
Learn to become a successful entrepreneur in an engineering-based enterprise, with an emphasis on new product and service ventures. This project-based course will outline the best practices in Engineering Entrepreneurship, including developing business ideas, assessing a new venture’s financial viability, financing and funding, and intellectual property.

About the Professor: Dr. Tom Garcia serves as an instructor in Northern’s College of Engineering and is President and CEO of Tactical Advantage Group, Albuquerque, NM. Dr. Garcia earned his PhD in Educational Leadership and Institutional Learning from the University of New Mexico, his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Denver, and two undergraduate engineering degrees from New Mexico State University.
During his career in the private sector, he served as Deputy Laboratory Director, Los Alamos National Laboratory; President and CEO of L&M Technologies, Inc., Albuquerque, NM; Vice President and CEO of US WEST Communications, Inc., New Mexico and Arizona Operations; Executive VP, US WEST Corporate HQ, Denver, Colorado, VP of Marketing, Graviton, Inc., La Jolla, California, and Director of Technology Transfer at the Air force Research Laboratory. Dr. Garcia also served as Executive VP of Northern New Mexico College.
