The Northern New Mexico College Board of Regents officially announced the selection of Dr. Richard Bailey, Jr. as President of the College on Thursday, April 28. The College has been under the direction of an Interim President since Dr. Nancy “Rusty” Barceló stepped down as President at the end of 2015. The Board of Regents enacted a Presidential Search Plan in December of 2015 and has been working since that time with Dr. Hugh Prather of Prather Consulting, LLC to carry out an intensive presidential search process.
“We are truly grateful for all of the support and advisory input we received during this important presidential search process,” said Board President Rosario “Chayo” Garcia. “The decision we made was in no small way impacted by that valuable input from students, faculty, staff and the greater community.”
Dr. Bailey is set to assume office October 17, 2016 when his retirement from the U.S. Air Force will be effective. The Board is confident that until that time Domingo Sánchez, III, who also serves as Vice President for Finance and Administration at Northern, can continue to fill the vital role of Interim President.
"As the first Student Regent of NNMC, I am proud to have been part of the process of electing our new president and being an important advocate for the Student Senate, along with the student body,” said Regent Melinda DeHerrera reflecting back on the presidential search. “We are excited and looking forward to our fresh new start with our choice of Dr. Bailey and his positive morale for the future of our college."
