Apply Today for Northern Scholarships!

Northern New Mexico College is providing scholarships for current and prospective students to help cover the cost of education for the 2020-2021 school year.

Northern will provide 100 students with $1,000 scholarships that can be applied toward the student’s account. Scholarships are also available via the Maley Fund for students pursuing degrees in nursing, and for aspiring teachers via the Teacher Preparation Affordability and the Grow Your Own Teachers scholarship programs.

To be considered for general scholarships, applicants must complete the online application no later than Sunday, July 26, 2020. To be considered for teacher education scholarships, applicants must submit by Sunday, August 9. Scholarship applications can be found on Northern’s website at www.nnmc.edu.

“This year, Northern will provide students with more scholarship money than at any point in our 111-year history,” Northern New Mexico College President Rick Bailey said. “We are committed to keeping education at Northern affordable and accessible, and this year’s scholarship awards continue this commitment.”

“Northern remains one of the most affordable options for higher education in the Southwest, and has not raised tuition for the past three consecutive years, the only college in the state with that distinction. Most students also qualify for federal aid such as Pell grants and state aid such as the New Mexico Lottery Scholarship and the inaugural Opportunity Scholarship,” he said.

Students considering attending Northern for the Fall 2020 semester are encouraged to apply and register as soon as possible to be eligible for as much aid as possible, as some funds are first-come, first-served. Northern’s Fall semester will take place online, and classes begin on Monday, August 17.

Northern considers a variety of factors in determining scholarship awards including campus and community involvement, major, and student need, and personal experiences. Scholarship funds will be disbursed during the Fall semester upon verification of recipient’s enrollment at Northern.

Current college students, high school graduates, high school equivalency graduates, and international students are encouraged to apply. Northern students are eligible to receive up to two scholarships while pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degrees. There are no citizenship requirements to be eligible for Northern scholarships.
