9th Annual Garlic Harvest Festival Photo Album

If you were able to make it out for the 9th Annual Garlic Harvest Festival at Northern's Sostenga Farm, thank you for joining us and helping to make this a fun community and family event! We hope you will join us next June for the 10th Annual Garlic Harvest Festival. This annual event is a fun and family friendly way to support sustainable local agriculture and social justice issues having to do with farming and agriculture in northern New Mexico.

The Garlic King and Queen were crowned after the harvest. This year's Rey and Reina are Norberto Armijo and Donne Gonzales, both are recognized for their contributions to our sustainable local agricultural heritage and future.

Many staff and faculty from Northern volunteered time to help with Garlic Festival activities on Saturday, and the work of all of the volunteers helped make this year's event very enjoyable and successful. From blue corn pancakes to children's field day activities, garlic braiding and, of course, the actual garlic harvest, the day was abuzz with activity.

Armijo, who is also the Farm Manager, estimated this year's garlic harvest at about 2000 pounds wet, which will dry to about 1200 pounds.

The winning Garlic Harvest teams were:

1st Place - Team 'Peñasco/Española/Chimayo'

2nd Place - Team 'Chamisal - Sembrando Semillas'

3rd Place - Team 'S. Chocolate'
