Northern foundation breaks scholarship record
The Northern New Mexico College Foundation provided $133,000 in scholarship money this academic year, an increase of $37,000 from last year and the most ever awarded by the foundation in a single year.
The foundation is a non-profit entity that has been raising funds to support scholarships and other college initiatives since 1995. Over $90,000 in endowed scholarships was awarded in addition to $10,000 in one-time scholarships, $17,000 in Daniel's Fund and $16,000 Eight Northern Pueblo Indian
The increase in award money from the foundation has allowed Northern to rely less on Bridge scholarships, which are paid for by the college, both freeing up institutional funds and increasing the overall amount of aid available to students.
Northern New Mexico College Foundation hopes to increase the amount of scholarship funds raised each year and will host its fundraising and awards dinner in November.
