Northern New Mexico is one of the most engaging places on the planet—historically, culturally and humanistically. We invite you to explore it through studies in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Language & Letters (HSSLL) at Northern!

Our department provides an approach to college learning that empowers students and prepares them to deal with complexity, diversity, and change. Our classes emphasize broad knowledge that engages both the local and the global, so our students can become strong communicators, use analytic reasoning, and be problem solvers in their own communities. We value the ability to think critically, and apply the knowledge and skills we learn to real-world settings.

HSSLL offers high quality academic coursework, leading to an associate degree or in preparation for transfer to a baccalaureate degree program. Additionally, we provide excellent scholastic support in the many general education courses required for any degree program pursued at Northern. Our programs are relevant to your personal and professional needs; they develop critical thinking skills and help you develop into an organized, focused, empowered, and independent lifelong learner.

Northern's Humanities, Social Sciences, and Language & Letters is located in the Montoya Administration Building, lower level. Call or visit us to learn more about our programs!
