Career/Technical Programs

Automotive Technology

A Word About the Program

With a strong national demand for automotive technicians, Northern's Automotive Technology program provides instruction and training to meet this need. Classroom instruction and hands-on work in the shop give graduates the basics to prepare them for entry-level employment. Jobs are possible in such businesses as dealerships, auto parts stores, specialty shops, and other auto related businesses.

For those planning to start their own business, Northern offers a wide range of business courses and assistance from the Small Business Development Center.

Students may begin the four semester program any semester and progress through the sequence of courses from that point. Please contact Donald Martinez at 505-581-4120 or  donmart@nnmc.edu to receive more information about program requirements for the Certificate or Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology.

Electrical Technology

A Word About the Program

The Electricity program at Northern New Mexico College is based on the El Rito Campus. The program offers a course of study that can lead to either a certificate in electricity or an associates degree in electrical technology. Either course of study prepares the student to enter a field where many job opportunities exist. The certificate and degree programs both prepare the student for the state journeyman's examination and offer strong fundamentals in national electrical code interpretation, electrical theory and practical residential, commercial and light industrial wiring skills.

The certificate can be completed in two semesters and prepares the student for entry-level employment as an apprentice or helper. The associates degree in electrical technology can take four or more semesters and has higher level requirements in English, math, computer skills, and motor controls. These additional requirements are designed to give the student a well rounded education and prepare him/her for the opportunity to become foreman, supervisor or an electrical contractor. Please contact Donald Martinez at 505-581-4120 or  donmart@nnmc.edu to receive more information about program requirements for the Certificate and Associate of Applied Science in Electricity.
