Assistant Professor of Accounting

This position teaches undergraduate accounting, as well as other business courses as assigned, during the evenings, days and online.  The teaching schedule includes:  Four -3 credit hour courses in the Fall and four – 3 credit courses in the Spring.  The chosen faculty member will be using electronics such as the computer, smart board and printer daily.  This position reports directly to the College of Business Administration Dean.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Candidate will be responsible for teaching 100, 200, 300, and 400 levels of accounting and other undergraduate business courses.  Other responsibilities include working on accreditation, advising, developing curriculum, implementing new class and new projects, recruiting and retaining students, working with the community, working with the college community, and any other duties that are necessary for the College of Business Administration to grow and succeed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

MBA is required.  Ph.D. or D.B.A. is preferred.  CPA certification is also desirable but not required.  Previous teaching experience in higher education and experience teaching web-based courses is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS 

Have the business skills to teach business courses in Higher education.  Have skills to work as a team to develop new courses and curriculum to keep the programs up to date with what is needed in the workforce and to develop new program for continual growth of the college. Grant writing skills is desirable.  They must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others, as well as have a willingness to serve on college committees.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Will be working indoors.  Will be using the following to teach:  Electronics to teach (smart board, computer), chalkboards, and whiteboards.  Will be giving face-to-face lectures as well as on-line.

STEM Mentor Collective Program Coordinator

Coordinate the six programs of the Northern New Mexico STEM Mentor Collective. The Collective unites two local public colleges, 3 school systems, 2 libraries, 1 museum, 1 national laboratory and four local organizations devoted to youth development. Three of our programs bring STEM undergraduate mentors to school students, one trains mentors, one trains mentees to value and grow their network of mentors, and one trains K12 teachers to partner with us in STEM. The coordinator will facilitate regular communication between Collective partners, schedule all six programs, acquire supplies for all six programs and execute the necessary payroll operations to compensate each of the student and faculty mentors and Principal Investigators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate with school and library administrators and college faculty and students and Collective partners to schedule six ongoing programs at three high schools.
  • Maintain daily contact with schools and mentors to accommodate absences, illnesses, school closures, etc.
  • Work with the Program Evaluator to collect pre and post survey data from all participants at least three times per year.
  • Work with three Principal Investigators (PIs) to schedule and plan monthly meetings of the 15 member Collective.
  • Work with three PIs to create annual reports to the National Science Foundation and annual report cards to the broader community.
  • Work with three PIs to seek and secure additional funding from local and national sources.
  • Procure and inventory STEM equipment for use in schools and libraries.
  • Bring student mentors onto payroll.
  • Process time sheets and travel records of all mentors and PIs.
  • Serves as a liaison to other INCLUDES pilots in the southwest as we scale up to a regional program.
  • Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field is required for this position.
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in project coordination and/or administration.

College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) AND College Recruiter

The CAMP and College Recruiter works under the supervision of the CAMP Director and the Director of Admissions.  The Recruiter is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of a student recruitment and campus marketing strategy. The recruiter works closely with academic deans and directors to insure that the institution’s programs and offerings are represented consistently and accurately.  Recruiter conducts outreach and recruitment activities to identify and recruit CAMP eligible and college students works closely with high school counselors, GED programs and community/state organizations to identify and promote higher education. In addition, works closely with the students and their families in completing the college admissions process and the CAMP admissions process; collaborates and coordinates with CAMP and NNMC departments to share information and ensure a smooth transition into college. The CAMP and College Recruiter gathers and disseminates information on student resources available at institution, local and national level.. Works hours are non-traditional:  11 am – 8 pm and weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and develop specific institutional student recruitment goals, objectives and strategies.  Conducts outreach and recruitment activities to identify and recruit CAMP eligible students in the New Mexico and Colorado area.
  • Implement tracking system for Northern graduates in regards to job placement.  (Gainful Employment Reporting System)
  • Coordinate all campus tours for prospective students, schools, businesses, parents, organizations, etc.
  • Plan and conduct career services oriented workshops including resume’ writing, interview skills etc.
  • Contribute to the creation and upgrade of marketing and promotional student recruitment materials for CAMP and Northern in conjunction with the Marketing Department
  • Maintain continuous correspondence based on daily inquiries/applicants.
  • Work closely with Department Deans, Chairs and faculty to help meet CAMP and departmental enrollment goals.
  • Maintain an inquiry database of prospective students to be shared campus-wide.
  • Work with ACT lists and senior and junior class lists as student recruitment tools.
  • Lead the coordination of college and career fairs in order to promote Northern to area businesses, organizations and high schools.
  • Work with lists of “Non-matriculated’ students in an effort to recruit students to CAMP and Northern.
  • Work with various institutional committees to achieve recruitment goals and objectives.
  • Assist in promotion of Northern programs including scholarships/financial aid, CAMP, EOC, summer programs, Dual Credit, etc.
  • Must be able to relate to co-workers, supervisor, prospective students and parents.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is a necessary function.
  • Work closely with the CAMP Academic Advisor to ensure eligible student’s transition smoothly from recruiter to adviser. Assists in the verification of student eligibility and selection process

  • Perform other duties as assigned by CAMP Director and the Director of Admission.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelors’ degree in education, counseling, communications or related field and two (2) to four (4) years’ of identification and recruitment strategies, working with first-generation college students, low-income minority students in rural communities, and/or Migrant/Seasonal Farm worker (MSFW) population; preparing and delivering presentations to high school and college students and community at large. Must maintain a strong background in post secondary admissions process/requirements, financial aid, academic programs and able to comprehend and apply federal regulations. Must be fluent in Spanish at a native speaker level in order to effectively communicate with students and their families.

Accountant/Business Systems Analyst

This position reports directly to the Director of Financial Services.  This position is unique to the organization and requires both system and accounting expertise.

Student Receivables Functions

This position is responsible for the review and maintenance of all student accounts.  Student accounts to include, new and returning students, dual credit, third party as well as Veteran students and students eligible for tuition waiver.  In addition this position works closely with Financial Aid, Registrar, Bookstore and Admissions to ensure that all transactions transmitted to student accounts are up to date and accurate.  The individual in this position is the Liaison between the College and the Third Party providers for students.  This position is also responsible for processing all student refunds, for student billings and 1098T tax reporting.  A higher level of responsibility has been added to this position which includes the review of the accounting associated with the detail codes used in student accounts to ensure accuracy of accounting transactions into the Banner System.

System Analyst Functions

This position requires extensive knowledge of the Banner System and the Touch Net System as the individual is responsible for maintaining all tables associated with Tuition and Fees and the Chart of Accounts for the College as well as the billing and payment process for students.  This position also provides support to the Business Office on all Banner system issues affecting Purchasing, Accounts Payable and Accounting.  This position works closely with IT, the Banner System Administrator, and Banner Consultants in resolving any system related issues that affect accounting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Banner System Support – Student Receivables
  • Banner System Table Maintenance, run fiscal year end system jobs
  • TouchNet System maintenance
  • Review and maintain all student accounts and provide assistance to students

  • Third Party account reviews, processing and invoicing
  • Dual Credit review, processing and invoicing

  • Audit and process all student refund file feeds from Financial Aid
  • Process and distribute all student bills, third party bills, 1098 tax forms, collection letters
  • Test new Banner functionality associated with Student Accounts Receivable and coordinates implementations
  • Work with IT, Banner System Administrator and Banner Consultants to resolve system related issues.
  • Attend System Maintenance Planning Meetings and ongoing communication with Director.
  • Assist in training staff to effectively work with the BANNER computer system and system report creation and configuration.
  • Position will provide support during the annual audit, as required by auditors.
  • Must maintain current and practical awareness of state and federal agency regulations regarding fiscal matters.
  • Must maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping all student and financial data confidential as well as comply with all FERPA requirements.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or related field or a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.
  • To include a minimum of 5 years with experience in systems analysis and database management; design and implementation with experience with Oracle SQL and database structure, Banner System and TouchNet.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Access Database experience preferred
  • Banner and or Touch Net System experience preferred
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Must have strong accounting skills to be able to reconcile accounts and answer student accounts receivable inquiries

Grant Writer

Identifies private, federal, and state grant funding opportunities that align with the mission and needs of the college. Coordinates the pre-award planning, organization, writing, and submission of grant proposals.  Interacts with investigators and administrative staff to ensure that grants are in compliance with regulatory, funding agency, and policy requirements. Provides guidance and support to investigators in the identification and development of grant opportunities. Generates reports as needed for grant reporting.

Would you like to become a secondary (7-12 grade) teacher?  Are you majoring in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) field OR do you already have a STEM degree?

You could be eligible for $12,000 a year to pursue licensure as a secondary teacher through the National Science Foundation’s NOYCE grant. Students must teach two years for every year of support.

To be eligible students must:

  1. Declare their major to be a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) major and complete enough hours to be considered a senior or a second semester junior  OR  Have a STEM degree.
  2. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (some exceptions may be considered).
  3. Be a U.S. citizen or possess status as a national, refugee alien, or permanent resident alien.
  4. Teach two years in a high-risk school district for every year of support.
